The MacArthur HAT is designed to connect Raspberry Pi with common marine interfaces. Depending on the final installation and optional hardware selected, it can help bridge NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, Seatalk and supported power-management functions into the open-source navigation system.
Installation note: Proper circuit protection, grounding, network topology, cable selection and safe 12-volt power conversion remain essential. Non-isolated connections must be evaluated for the individual vessel.
Use it as the primary open-source chartplotter, a companion to an existing multifunction display, an AIS and GPS data server, a Victron and solar monitoring station, a tank-and-battery dashboard, or the onboard technology center for a long-distance cruising boat such as the Yukon Delta Nomad. The system can serve tablets and phones over the boat network so useful data is not limited to one screen.
